Mr. Samuel Erastus Godwin, age 87, of Warsaw, died Monday, December 3, 2007, at home.
Funeral services will be held today, December 5 at 11:00 a.m. from Warsaw Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Henry Swanzy. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens in Warsaw.
Mr. Godwin was a veteran of World War II, having served as a B24 Bomber pilot in Europe. He received a distinguished flying cross for his service. He was also a charter member of the Warsaw Jaycees and a former mayor of Warsaw.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Pamela Owen Godwin of Warsaw; one granddaughter, Meredith Owen Godwin of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews.
A Harnett County native, Mr. Godwin was the son of the late Edgar Judson and Kitty Elma Godwin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Emma Frances Pridgen Godwin and his son, Samuel E. Godwin, Jr.
Casketbearers will be Bill Bacon, Garrett Ludlum, Larry Godwin, Hillman Godwin, Buck Godwin and Kenny Godwin.
