College Football Hall of Fame Player. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was the first African American to play football in the College Big Nine. For three seasons (1904-06), he played end for the University of Minnesota football team and in 1906, he kicked a 60 yard field goal to beat the University of Chicago. After graduating, he played with the Minneapolis pro teams the Deans and the Marines. He also was one of the first African Americans to play in the NFL with the Minneapolis Marines (1920-24). He died at age 78 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was posthumously inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
