In 1889 Ole Moen died leaving Kjersti a widow with six children. Tragically in 1901 Kjersti also died leaving the children orphans. The cause of the deaths is still unknown. The children's Uncle Gilbert Overland, who was Kjersti's half brother, took in all the children and raised them as his own.
In 1901 when Kjersti died the children were the following ages; Clara age 14, Jonetta age 12, Obert age 10, Gilbert age 8, Albert age 6, Anna age 3. Gilbert married Anna Floan in 1902, and they were blessed with nine children of their own. It was a big happy family.
