Robert ALFORD died on 28 Feb 1886 in Blount County, TN, of pneumonia fever. He was born in Sevier County in 1824. He had a fever at age 18, and since had been afflicted with chronic disease. At age 20 he made a profession of religion. Upon moving to Blount County in 1847 [age 23] he joined the church by letter at Mt. Moriah, a Methodist Episcopal Church. He later moved his membership to Shady Grove. He never married until after the [Civil] war to Sarah LANE, settled near Union Grove Church, where he remained until his death. His wife survives him, and one daughter, two sisters [one sister Nancy, married to Meredith LANE, had died in 1880]. Services were by Rev. J. A. RUBLE; burial at Big Spring. A poem follows.
