Debra Harrison-White was kind enough to email the obit her mother had in a box (unknown newspaper and date published):
We anxiously hope that you too were privileged to know our friend Zelma Austin (Mrs. Claude T. Austin) for she was truly a SAINT!
We knew her as a person of exceptional virtue and rejoice that she is now officially recognized as having reached a glorified state in Heaven, and one of the blessed in heaven.
ZELMA was awarded this highest of all pinnacles in the late morning hours of February 13,1985,when her Lord and Master, always in keeping with his written word, received her unto himself, that she will suffer no more in this life, nor in the glorious findings of life eternal!
ZELMA'S continuous outpouring of LOVE and BENEVOLENCES were accomplished with noiseless acclaim on her part. The only "understandable explanation" which just might tend to measure STRENGTH and DEPTH of her LOVE is to equate it to that repetitious drop of clear water, when left unmolested to drip, NEVER FAILS to break through SOLID GRANITE ROCK! That's the way, ZELMA lived and LOVED!
Could it seven be that ZELMA'S victorious homecoming with her Lord and Master was so timed to be the day before VALENTINES day to tell "all of us" something in a different sort of way, in an ENTIRE WORLD so much in need of "ZELMA'S KIND OF LOVE?"
ZELMA lived motherhood as God intended, There is living and loving proof exemplified in her beautiful daughter Claudia Deen of Irving.
Did ZELMA earn a passing grade as Grandmother? You better believe she did! Both Karen and James Deen of Irving will tell you up front that ZELMA won the award for the world's greatest Grandmother long before there was ever a contest. ZELMA loved them north dearly and especially enjoyed closely monitoring James's athletic prowess.
Whether it was the Women's Club, Sunday School, Church, or the Ladies Aid Society "ZELMA was always ZELMA" another endearing trait of character that brought about mutual LOVE and respect.
We thank GOD for both ZELMA and Claude Austin. ZELMA'S deep seated influence will live on through the years. A countless number of you who read this have given unselfishly of yourself, your time, and your talents during these dark days, however; we humbly seek your continued participation in prayer for Claudia, Karen, and James. As they steadfastly secure themselves in "THE PEACE THAT PASSETH ALL UNDERSTANDING", we too can experience solace.
Yes, we truly LOVED ZELMA and Claude Austin. Our lives are richer in stable values because of them. We shall forever remain indebted to GOD for having shared them with us!
