Worked, along with his father and younger brother, as a research assistant to doctors at Johns Hopkins Medical School. When the doctor he worked with moved to Harvard Medical School, Leo went with him. On arriving in the Boston area he stayed for a short time in a boarding house. There he met the owner's niece, Helen Murtagh, who had just arrived in America from Ireland. They were married in 1933. Leo was a medical photographer at Harvard Medical School for 35 years.
