GEORGE REED WAS BORN ALFRED MARCELLUS STONE

ALFRED MARCELLUS STONE also known as GEORGE REED, the son of Jerome Egbert Stone and Evelyn "Eva" May Washburn, was born on 19 Jan 1891 in Osceola, St Joseph, Indiana, USA .
The 1891 date on his marker was the birth year on his Military records. He died on 04 Feb 1942 due to a drunk driver accident in Sacramento, California, USA.

His parents divorced when he was 9. His mother left Indiana and may of had another son. His father remarried andraised the 3 children.

Alfred, along with his brother Vernon Stone, joined the Army when he was 17. They both are residing in the Fort Riley Military Reservation, in Geary, Kansas in 1910. He was honorably discharged in June,1912. He went to visit his mother in Missouri. She signed (Mrs. Eva Briggs) for him to re-enlist in the Army June 28, 1912 at the Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, for 3 years. He was shipped to The Presidio Military Base in San Francisco, California.

Alfred Stone married MAMIE "MARY" ELIZA GALLAGHER on 10 Feb 1914, at The Prescidio Military Base in San Francisco, California. Mamie "Mary" who is the daughter of James Francis Gallagher and Lucinda Marie COTA from Grass Valley, Nevada, California, USA. Mamie lost her mother and was placed in an orphanage/boarding school when she was 11 even though her father was still alive.

Alfred and Mamie took a motorcycle ride equipped with a side car, which ended up in Coalinga, Fresno County, California , where there first daughter Evelyn was born under the name of Mary E Reed. Alfred had a couple months left to complete his 3 year enlistment. His military records do NOT state he was dishonorably discharged. They went back to San Francisco to resume living near Mamie's sister Adele Burgess, using the REED name.

26 Years later, Alfred Stone died under the (aka) name of George E Reed, herefore his ashes that were supposed to have been sent to the Precidio Military Base in San Francisco for burial, never happened. His ashes remained on a shelf at East Lawn in Sacramento for 70 years before they were finally recovered by family and put to rest in his own plot, in the same cemetery where they had remained all those years. Social Security has corrected and merged the Stone/Reed records.
