LOWELL B. TATE FATALLY INJURED
Former Fultonian dies Forty-Five Minutes after California Auto Mishap
DETAILS LACKING
He and His Bride of Five Months On Way To Take Hospital Positions
Lowell Bolton Tate, 40 years old, was fatally injured in an automobile accident at Visalia, Calif., at 8:30 o'clock, Friday morning, while he and his bride of five months, the former Miss Ruby Tyer of Nevada, MO., were motoring to Livermore Calif., where they were to accept positions in a private hospital. Mr. Tate died forty-five minutes later in a hospital at Visalia hospital.
Mrs L. B. (Dick) Page of Grand avenue, a sister of Tate, received the telegram that told of the accident but it contained no details. It is presumed here that it occurred on a highway near Visalia.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Tate had been employed at the State Hospital at Nevada until a few days ago, when they resigned their positions in response to the offer from the Livermore hospital. They had come to Fulton to visit relatives and also at Columbia and then started for California. They had advised officials of the institution they would report there for work either October 10 or 11.
Mrs. Tate wired that the body would be brought back to Missouri for burial but the arrangements for the funeral probably will not be known until she arrives here.
Mr. Tate was born on a farm southeast of Williamsburg, and spent his boyhood days there. He was a son of the late Taylor and Molly Tate. For several years he was employed in Fulton in the occupation of carpenter and plumber. He was employed at the Fulton State Hospital for seven years and at the Nevada Hospital for four years. Mrs. Tate had been employed at the Nevada institution two years.
They were married at Nevada May 10 of this year, having become acquainted during their employment at the Nevada hospital. They spent their vacation in Fulton and in Columbia during July and previously had visited in this city on several occasions.
Besides his wife, Mr. Tate is survived by three brothers, Thomas N. Tate of Auxvasse, Lawrence Tate of Columbia and Marion Tate of Fulton, and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Martin of Columbia, Mrs Grace Old of Columbia and Mrs. Iona Page of Fulton.
He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church near Williamsburg.
Friends of the family in Fulton were shocked to hear of the tragic death of Mr. Tate, especially under such unusual circumstances and extend their sympathy to the bereaved.
