Isaac H. Alley (c.1800-1842), married Sarah Couch (c.1820-1842) possibly in South Carolina. Isaac is shown on the 1840 Pulaski County Census, with a wife, two sons and one daughter, all under 5. Isaac's age is listed in the 30-39 category, his wife, in the 20-29 category.

Isaac and Sarah had two sons, William H (1838-1895) and John Pinckney (1840-1891), and one daughter (1835-1842), name unknown. Isaac received a Federal land patent in 1839 in Saline County, Arkansas.

According to John Pinckney Alley's obituary he was orphaned at age 2, which would have been about 1842. The brothers were raised by their Aunt Mary (Couch) and Uncle Willis Pipkin, (their mother's sister). Family history states that Isaac, Sarah, and the daughter died during a flu epidemic in Saline County. Their burial places are unknown, but it assumed that it was on land that he received as a grant in 1839 in Saline County, Arkansas.

The 1850 census lists John Pipkin, 11 as a child in the home of Mary Pipkin; the 1840 census of the Pipkin familty lists no male children. I believe John Pipkin to be John Pinckney Alley. His brother William was not listed with the family.

John Pinckney Alley married Malana A Snow(1842-1880) on September 22, 1859.

In the 1860 census he was listed as John Alla Snow in the census report. He, Malana, and their son Solomon Milton were living in the home of Malana's brother, Solomon J Snow.

Alley, John P. Pvt, age 24, enlilsted April 25, 1861 at Benton, Arkansas. Mustered into CSA service May 19, 1861 at Lynchburg, Virginia. Captured April 8, 1862 at Island #10, Missouri and sent to MP at Camp Douglas, Illinois, deserted January 27, 1864 and dropped from the rolls.

NOTE: According to records John Pinckney Alley was a Confederate soldier. He has a confusing history. He enlisted in Company E, 1st Arkansas Infantry and went to Virginia. He must have had to come home because somehow he winds up in Company B, 11th Arkansas Infantry (Saline County) and was captured at Island 10, sent to Camp Douglas prison, and upon release returns to Company E, 1st Arkansas Infantry until "deserting" in January 1864. FAMILY ORAL HISTORY: The reason he would come home during the Civil war was to plant crops and take care of things at home. When that was done he would go back to the war.

The 1870 and 1880 census reports had their residence as Owen, Saline County, Arkansas.

John Pinckney along with two of his children were recorded in the Church Register as early members of the Saline Methodist Episcopal Church, South, now known as Salem United Methodist Church, 1648 Salem Road, Benton, Arkansas.

In 1879, John Pinckney Alley purchased 120 acres from A R Hockersmith, and in 1883 a part of that land was sold to his son Solomon Milton Alley. Note: Most of this land is currently under water at Hurricane Lake.

Malana A Snow Alley died on May 22, 1880. Her husband, father Obediah Snow, and brother Solomon Snow are all buried in Snow Cemetery. It is assumed that she is buried there as well, but there is no marker for her. Find A Grave Memorial# 69254074.

John Pinckney married Malinda Catherine Everett Lane on 15 Jan 1884.

On September 17, 1889, John Pinckney Alley received a federal land grant of 40 acres in Saline County.

John Pinckney Alley died on January 27, 1891, age 51 years, 12 days. Listed in family Bible as death at Siddell. Burial at Snow Cemetery, Saline County. This is very close to or on property that he owned near Hurricane Lake. His death is also recorded in the Salem Methodist Church, manner of death, pneumonia.

His widow, Malinda Alley, applied for an ex-Confederate Soldier's Pension June 22, 1891, but there is no record that she ever received one.

Malinda married Joseph H Jones on December 15, 1897. She died on February 8, 1931. Burial at Old Rosemont Cemetery, Benton, Saline County, Arkansas, USA. Find A Grave Memorial# 37376303

The Rev J P Alley was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, January 15, 1840. He was left an orphan at the age of two years and was raised by his aunt, Mrs. Mary Pipkin of Saline county. He made a profession of religion in 1857 at Piney Grove church in the same County. He was married to his first wife, Miss Malana Snow, Sept 22, 1859: she was the mother of eight children and died peacefully May 27, 1880. He was married the second time to Mrs. M C Lane of Lonoke co. Jan 15, 1884, and lived happy together for more than seven years. He died Jan 27, 1891 at his home near McNealon church. He suffered much during hs last illness, but leaned on the strong arm of the Lord. When he was told by his living wife he could not recover he was asked if all was well, he answered "O yes-yes-yes, all is well". He lived right and died well and in the holy triumph. He was licensed to preach soon after the war and was a faithful minister of the gospel in the local ranks, we labored much together and were intimate neighbors and preachers. I have lost a good friend and the wife a devoted hisband and the children a loving father. May God bless the afflicted family. PATRICK SCOTT, LaBelle, Ark.
