SALEM - Venita Marvel Bennett, 81, died Wednesday. She was born in Hutchinson, Kansas to Ural and Susie Cox. After attending a nearby Junior College she came to Salem at age 24, a city she chose out of an atlas. She met Floyd Bennett not long after arriving and were married New Years Eve day, 1953. After raising three children she became involved in her husband's Hearing Aid service. Throughout her life Venita was known as a giving and loving person with a true gift of hospitality. She will be missed by many. Survivors include daughter, Janie (and her husband Ken) Williamson of Allen, Texas; two sons, Robert (and wife Carlene) Bennett of Salem and Craig Bennett of Chino, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Clayton Cox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 2003 and her brother, Leroy Cox. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, August 27, at Peoples Church, 4500 Lancaster Dr. NE in Salem. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
