Anchorage Daily News December 6, 1998

Anchorage resident Hunter L. Dennis, 82, died Dec. 2, 1998, at Alaska Regional Hospital. No services were held at Mr. Dennis' request. He was placed beside his late wife, Dottie, at Riverside National Cemetery in California.

Mr. Dennis was born July 24, 1916, in Corcoran, Calif. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1935, he served during World War II and with distinction in the 7th Infantry in Korea during the Korean War. He retired in 1960 with the rank of sergeant. Following retirement, he worked as an armed guard in shipyards in California. On June 3, 1996, Mr. Dennis moved to Eagle River to live with his grandson Michael and be closer to family. He moved to Horizon House in December 1996, where he resided until October 1998. He then moved to the Mary Conrad Center, where he was a resident until his health recently declined. His family said: ''From the moment he arrived, he really enjoyed being in Alaska. From observing the magnificent glaciers to taking an adventurous dog-sled ride, the climate and the people suited him completely. He enjoyed talking about the war, the places he had been and the things he did. He will be dearly missed.''

Mr. Dennis is survived by his grandson and his wife, Michael and Kristy Davis of Eagle River; grandson, Robert Love of Seattle; great-granddaughter, Jennifer Davis of Eagle River; stepdaughter, Susan Wynn and her husband, Jamie, both of Texas; sisters, Freida Standley of Nevada and Betty Stanescue of Georgia; and niece and nephew, Helen and Russ Lynch. Mr. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy ''Dottie''; daughter, Carol Johannes; son, Richard, who died in infancy; and brothers, Orville and George Dennis. Arrangements were by the Alaska Cremation Center.
