Violet F. Bargfrede, 87, of Sweet Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Warrensburg Manor in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs. Rev. David M. Ritoch will officiate. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Randy Tapley, Robin Krause, Clint Krause, Brad Drake, Jeff Kirchhoff and Jim Crooks. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials are suggested to the church.

Born Jan. 12, 1916, in Mt. Leonard, she was the daughter of the late Walter Halsey and Stella Hayes Halsey. On Oct. 1, 1938, in Mt. Leonard, she married Herbert Bargfrede, who preceded her in death April 4, 2001. She had worked as a cook at Lutheran Good Shepherd Nursing Home for more than 20 years, retiring in June 1989. She was also a homemaker. She had lived in Sweet Springs most of her life and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Krause of Knob Knoster and Shirley Kirchhoff of Sweet Springs; two sisters, Gladys Lopp of Kansas City and Betty Halsey of St. Louis; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, C.K. Halsey, and one sister, Nadine Parsley.
