Suzanne (Sue) Blessington Cooper, of Dallas passed away August 20, 2010, in the aftermath of a massive stroke. She was 85 years old.

Sue was born on March 23, 1925 in Wellington, Kansas. She was the only child of William Patrick and Mary Alf (Stone) Blessington. She attended Mount Saint Scholastica College (now Benedictine College) in Atchison, Kansas, and graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. She met the love of her life, William E. (Bill) Cooper, on a blind date. They married June 2, 1947, and began their lives together in Wichita, Kansas. Sue and Bill made their way to Dallas in 1952, when Bill was transferred, and stayed. Sue was a homemaker and a frequent volunteer for school, church and civic organizations. She was a leader in The Caladium Club, her neighborhood association, and both a Girl and Cub Scout Leader. She was active in various Catholic ministries, the Women's Club of Dallas, The Mary K. Craig Class and the alumnae of Kappa Alpha Theta, among many other organizations and charities.

Sue was an avid genealogist for more than 30 years, traveling widely in pursuit of family history. A dedicated, life-long Catholic, Sue helped to establish St. Rita Catholic Community in Dallas. She was involved in many facets of parish life.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, after nearly 61 years of marriage, and her parents.

She is survived by her four children: Rich Cooper, Centennial, Colorado; Lyn Cooper Abercrombie and her husband, Don, Carrollton; Kitty Cooper Wilson and her husband, James, Dallas; and Tom Cooper and his wife Shelley, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her fourteen grandchildren including Christa Cooper Gilstrap, and husband, Jason, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Debbie Cooper, Suzanne Cooper and Dan Cooper, all of Centennial, Colorado; Scot Abercrombie and his wife, Nancy, Aurora, Colorado; Nicole Abercrombie, Seattle, Washington; Holland Abercrombie Hammers and her husband, Bob Lewisville; and Richard Abercrombie, Plano; Nick Wilson and his wife, Eri, Dallas, and Greg Wilson, Dallas; and John Cooper, Lucy Cooper, Robert Cooper and Brian Cooper all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is survived by three great-grandchildren, Robbie Hammers, Lewisville, and Peyton Gilstrap and Scarlett Gilstrap, Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Sue is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kitty Cooper Hunter, of Wichita, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.

Vigil service with scripture, visitation and viewing will be officiated by Rev. Msgr. Bob Coerver, Pastor of St. Rita Catholic Community and held on Sunday, August, 22, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Rev. Phil Postell, S.J., president of Jesuit College Preparatory School, will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Community, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas. Interment will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jesuit School Scholarship Fund, Jesuit College Preparatory School, 12345 Inwood Road, Dallas, 75244, the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas, 4144 N. Central Expressway, Ste 750, Dallas, Texas 75204, or a charity of your choice.
