Robert M. Bales, Jr., 89, of Charleston, West Virginia, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 7, 2004, at Mystic Cemetery, Irwin County, Georgia, with Rev. Bobby Stone officiating.

Mr. Bales was born May 22, 1915 in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Robert M. and Luna Cobb Bales. He lived in Charleston, West Virginia for the past twenty years from Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Bales retired from the Railroad and was former owner/operator of Donald & Bales Exterminating Company in Jacksonville, Florida. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Bales is survived by his wife: Jean Bales, Charleston, WV; four daughters: Peggy Vorpe, Jacksonville, FL, Jean Quattlebaum, Lake City, FL, Margaret Ann Hall, Jacksonville, FL and Jeannette Paulk, Alapaha, GA; two step-daughters: Melanie Bales, Ohio and Sue Bales, Jacksonville, FL; twenty-two grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Mr. Bales was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Booth Bales, a daughter, Frances McClendon and a son, Byron Bales
