Jim was born in Bosqueville, Texas, to the late Oscar Emmitt and Robbie L. Kimball. At the age of fifteen and with his father's permission, he joined the Merchant Marines. After his sixteenth birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Chikaskia. On April 30, 1948, he married Bobbie J. Stone.
Jim spent most of his adult life working as a carpenter and builder beginning at Nash Robinson Lumber Company before going into partnership to form the Aaron Kimball Lumber Company. Jim retired from the lumber business but kept busy puttering in his barn. He enjoyed golf, playing dominoes with his friends, and restoring old tractors. He was a member of First Baptist Church of China Spring.
He helped organize the China Spring Volunteer Fire Department and served as the department's first Fire Chief. He served as a board member for China Spring School I.S.D. for many years and was a lifetime member of ASA Softball Association.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and William; sisters, Georgia, Geneva, and Edith; and parents-in-law, Toss and Addie Stone.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bobbie Kimball; daughters, Lynn McClelland and husband, Jim, and Jeannie Maus; granddaughters: Marti and Robert Greenly, Kelli and Robbie Kennemer, Kerry and Isaac Ortiz, Robbie Maus, and Tara Maus; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters by marriage; and many nieces and nephews.
