Born to Abraham S Harder (1908-1993) and Maria Rosella (Penner) Harder (1917-2001). He was the 4th son of 10 children of the Abe S. Harder family.

Siblings: Daniel David, Arnold Arlee, Abraham Milton "Abe", *.*, Marie Audrey, Margaret Elizabeth, Loren Laverne, Aganetha Joann, Marvin James, Edna Ruth.

Erwin was baptized 17 Mar 1964 in the First Mennonite Church by Rev. Willard W. Wiebe.

Corporal Erwin J. Harder died in Tay Ninh province in South Vietnam during a twilight ambush and subsequent battle on 29 Apr 1969.

I have thought of Erwin many times over the last 42 years. I don't know if he has any family left in the Mountain Lake area, but if he has, they should be proud of him and the type of person and soldier he was. He sustained a sucking chest wound from a rocket propelled grenade fired by the NVA as our company was setting up our perimeter for the night. I knew it was bad. The medevac helicopter arrived at our location pretty quickly, but he died enroute to the hospital. He will always be in my thoughts.

Guys from 3-3 D 5/7 Cav still remember Erv Harder. Fine soldier and good friend. Not forgotten as long as we're around Still talk about him after 45 years. He had good character and moral values that positively reflect on his family and upbringing. Someone you could count on.

You helped me shovel snow off the church sidewalks a few days before you left for Ft. Lewis. The next I saw you was on a MLHS graduation photo on your casket with the flag. Thank you for your service to our Country. You will always be remembered.
