Stephanie R. (Walsh) Burns, ninety-seven, of 75 Clayton Road, East Hartford, passed away at Hartford Hospital on Tuesday (August 17, 2010) after a valiant three year struggle with colon cancer.

Stephanie was born in Norwich, CT and resided in East Hartford for more than sixty years.

She was the widow of William L. Burns. A well known local seamstress, Stephanie had worked in the fashion industry as a sample maker before starting her own successful tailoring business.

She is survived by a son Mitchell Burns, his wife Doreen, and their two children Alexander and Amanda, all of East Hartford; a daughter Antoinette Murphy and her three children Robin, George, and Susan, all of Texas; and several great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Josephine Przygoda, Ann Sullivan, and Wanda Russell; and a grandson Timothy Murphy.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Funeral Services will begin on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home, followed at 10:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Christopher Church, Brewer Street, East Hartford.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, East Hartford.
