Martin and his family emmigrated to America in 1883 and settled in Polk County, Minnesota. This was near the homes of Peter, Trine Berg, Elene Bangen and John Thompson as well as Martin's mother, Maria.
Martin died July 15, 1920, in Polk County and is buried in the Sand Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery.
