BELLAIRE — Craig Lee Swartz, 50, of Bellaire, an electrical contractor, entrepreneur and tree farmer, after a courageous battle with cancer, died Tuesday morning, June 23, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 29, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of Lester and Elizabeth (Bergsman) Swartz. Recently, Craig, family and friends celebrated his 50th birthday.

Craig was a longtime member of Congregation Ahavat Shalom of Traverse City and a former member of Congregation Etz Chayim while living in Toledo.

As a hobby he enjoyed a competitive game of hockey.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra A. Swartz of Bellaire; two sons, Jordon E. Swartz of Toledo and Taylor D. Swartz of Bellaire; parents, Lester and Elizabeth Swartz of Lake Worth, Fla.; and three sisters, Lisa (John) Hemming of Toledo, Marci Leahey of Toledo and Debi (Rich) Fusco of Lake Worth, Fla.; and grandmothers, Sylvia Bergsman of Lake Worth, Fla., and Clara Swartz of Boca Raton, Fla.

Services will be held at Unitarian-Universalist Congregation, 6726 Center Road, Traverse City, on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rabbi Chava Bahle presiding. Graveside services with burial will follow at Helena Township Cemetery, Alden, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Congregation Ahavat Shalom, 3143 Logan Valley Road, Traverse City, MI 49684 or to Hospice of Michigan, 900 East Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49686.
