Jacqueline I. Schumaker Bahnfleth, 77, of 383 East River St., died unexpectedly Friday 8-29 in Athol Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack at home. Born in Toledo, Ohio, March 1, 1926, she was a daughter of Ralph and Ruth Myerholtz Schumaker. She worked at L.S. Starrett Company, Athol, several years prior to her retirement. Previously she had been employed many years at Western Electric Company in Illinois where she lived before moving to this area. In her earlier years, she was creative with sewing projects, painting statuary and working with clay. Later in life, her hobby was craftng storybook dolls. She was known as "Granny In Stitches", often displaying her dolls in area church fairs. She especially enjoyed her family, reading, her cat "Missy", playing Yahtzee, and band concerts. She leaves her daughter, Debra Dirth of Northfield and her husband Almon of Londonderry, NH.; six grandchildren, Chip Dirth and his wife, Dara, of Alexandria, VA, Bethany Bergenholtz of Hopewell, VA, Joshua Dirth of Lake Oswego, OR., Timothy Dirth of Winchester, NH, Jenna Dirth and Melissa Dirth both of Northfield; three great grandchildren, Kira, Kali, and Maia Bergenholtz of Hopewell, VA.; a brother in law, Walter Snedden of Addison, IL. She was predeceased by a son, Roger Bahnfleth, in 1989, a grandson, Jason Dirth, in 1976, a sister, Donna Snedden, in 2001 and a brother, Ralph Schumaker, Jr. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Graveside service 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4th at South Cemetery, South Main St., Orange. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Trinitarian Congregational Church, Main St., Northfield, 01360. Witty's Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. Guest register available at
