Althea B. "Grandma Babe" Rector, 95, of Sedan, Kansas formerly of Independence, Kansas passed away Saturday afternoon, March 23, 2002 at the Sedan City Hospital, Sedan, Kansas.
Althea was born February 10, 1907 to Harry O. and Eva Mae (Holden) Smith in rural Independence, Kansas. She was reared and educated in the Independence community. She graduated from Independence High School. On June 4, 1927, Althea married Dee J. Rector in Kansas City, Missouri. They owned and operated a farm near Independence. Mr. Rector preceded her in death in 1963. Althea was a homemaker and a member of the Bolton Friends Church.
Mrs. Rector is survived by four children, Jane Pomeroy of Derby, Kansas, Linda Mordy of Mequon, Wisconsin, J.D. Rector of Sedan, Kansas and Robert Rector of Brighton, Colorado. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 5 great- great grandchildren
She was also preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, 5 sisters, and 1 granddaughter.

Funeral services for Althea B. "Grandma Babe" Rector will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2002 at the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Kansas. Reverend Grady Miller, Pastor of the Bolton Friends Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas.
The family has suggested a memorial to the Bolton Friends Church. Memorials may be left with the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas.
