ESCALANTE, UT -- Arden Preston Taylor, 69, died Dec. 10, 2000 at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch.

Arden was born January 27, 1931 to Preston Francis and Emma Baker Taylor in Bicknell, Utah. He married Mae Vonn Alvey December 23, 1954 in Escalante.

Arden was raised in Wayne County and graduated from Wayne High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Engineer and Jet Mechanic during the Korean Conflict in Okinawa. Arden made a living operating heavy equipment and driving trucks for the sawmill in Escalante before retiring from his employment as a Field Superintendent in charge of drilling and exploration for Utah Power and Light. His employment gave him many opportunities to travel throughout the west. He was a member of the LDS Church.

Arden was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. We will miss his great stories and funny jokes. He dearly loved to hunt and fish on the Boulder Mountain. He was a hard worker, could fix almost anything, and took great pride in a job well done. Arden loved his family, friends and the Utah JAZZ. His grandkids were his most prized possessions. His dog Taylor provided him companionship and a listening ear.

Arden is survived by his wife Mae Vonn of Escalante; children: Emmorn (Rita) Dodds of Grace, Idaho; Jerry (Monica) Taylor of Alpine, Utah; Janalee (Louie) Bernardo of Escalante; Jimmy (Ethelinda) Taylor of South Jordan, Utah; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sisters: Fay (LeRoy) Nydegger of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Shirley (Wayne) Smith of Bicknell.
