A loving Christian life came to a close at 1:30 a.m., Monday, March 15, 1965 when Mrs. Cora L. Davis was called to rest.
Born January 31,1893 in Stokes, TN., the second of ten children to Jarrett and Jennie Smith, of which four brothers and two sisters preceeded her in death. The family moved to Oklahoma in her early childhood and settled near Luther, OK. There, she accepted Christ as a teenager and was baptized into the AME Church.
In 1915, she united in matrimony to Mr. Washington Davis. To this union, nine children were born. Her husband and one daughter (Fannie) preceeded her in death.
In August, 1942, she moved to OKC and united with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, under the pastorage of the late Rev. W. H. Marshall, where she attended regurlarly in her more youthful days.
She leaves to mourn her demise, two daughters: Dorothy Shaw, Earla Mae Reed; six sons, Joseph Leo, Herbert, James, Marvin and Sammie Lee; three sisters, Castoria McCoy, Ester Turner and Ethel Johnson; forty-six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; fourteen nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
