In the old cemetery at Friedens Church, in Rockingham County, is a rough sandstone tombstone to Daniel Hoffman, minister of the Gospel. He wad born Februrary 22, 1758; died in June, 1798. In the records of Shenandoah County at Woodstock I (John W. Wayland) find tabulated, between 1795 and 1799, one hundred and fifty-nine marriages performed by James Hoffman. Dr. Garrison informs me (John W. Wayland) that Daniel Hoffman and James Hoffman were Reformed ministers, brothers, and descendants of John Hoffman, one of the Germanna pioneers of 1714. From Twenty-Five Chapters on the Shenandoah Valley by John W. Wayland page 119.He was a Lutheran preacher ~ His parents came to the United States from Germany.
