Pansy Mae Chappell, 86, of Dorchester, wife of Sherman W. Chappell for 67 years, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Life Care Center of Charleston.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11 o'clock at Salem United Methodist Church in Dorchester. Friends may call at the church from 10 o'clock until hour of service. Burial will follow at Dorchester Cemetery. Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville from 5 until 7 o'clock Friday evening. Memorials may be made to: Salem United Methodist Church, Salem Road, Dorchester, SC 29437.

Mae was born March 22, 1924 in Dorchester, South Carolina, daughter of the late Pinckney Daniel Campbell and Osceolla Belle Way Campbell. She was a housewife and substitute school teacher. She volunteered at Midland Park Elementary School for over 5 years and at Trident Medical Center for over 15 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and President of the Patroletes for 3 years.

Surviving are: daughter: Yvonne Belle Hayes (Jeff) of Winter Haven, FL, son-in-law: Jay W. Hughes of Dorchester, SC, grandchildren: Joseph W. Alcala (Tera) of Oviedo, FL and Angie Renee Shoemaker (Doug) of Lakeland, FL, step grandchildren: Ashley Suzanne Hayes of Boca Raton, FL, and Jeffery David Hayes of Asheville, NC, great grandchildren: John Wyatt Alcala and Eli Alden Alcala both of Oviedo, FL. She was predeceased by her daughter, Angie Rose Hughes and siblings, Carl John Campbell, Sr., Russell Campbell, Harry Campbell, Martha Jean Campbell and Elise Judy.
