Graduate of the University of Illinois where he was a founder of the local fraternity Loyante which would later become Zeta Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau. He served as national president of Phi Kappa Tau in 1917 and was actively involved in the fraternity and the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation for the remainder of his life. The Fletemeyer Prize is awarded to the outstanding colony in Phi Kappa Tau each year.

He had a successful career as a general contractor in Detroit, Michigan

Married Hulda M. Irmscher, daughter of Max and Sophia (Weger) Irmscher, Nov. 28, 1918 in Allen County, Indiana.
