Charles resided in Hudson County, New Jersey prior to the war.

Charles served as a 2nd Lieutenant, Company A, 11th Armored Regiment, First Division, Fifth Army, during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on March 21, 1942 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Manufacturing Foremen and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married after his enlistment.

Charles was "Killed In Action" on the Italian Front in the Alps Mountains in Italy.

He served in the Army for two years and seven months and was awarded the "Silver Star" and a Purple Heart.
