William H. Taylor, son of Henry and Mary Taylor, was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, June 4, 1836 and in 1853 came to Clinton, De Witt county, Illinois with his parents. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. E 41st Ill. Inf., and in 1862 was made second lieutenant, and first lieutenant six months later, and was afterward adjutant. He served three years and one month.
William H. Taylor married Lucy A. Merrill on May 5, 1858 in De Witt county. Three children were born to them of whom only Walter is survived, the others dying when young. The wife died in 1873, aged 34. September 1, 1875 he married Miss Jennie Rennick in Stephenson county, Illinois. Three children were born to them. Nellie, who married Dr. C. S. Bogardus, died in 1901 at the age of 25; William and Edward.
