Walter Robert "Bob" Wetherington, Sr., 79, of Weems died on Wednesday, August 11, 2010. He was an active member of Kilmarnock Baptist Church, a Mason honored with 50 years of service, the Khedive Shrine Legion of Honor and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Wetherington was an employee of the Virginia State Police, serving from 1957 to 1987. Prior to his retirement he was the Assistant Director of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Chief Arson Investigator for the State of Virginia. A man of many accomplishments, he was appointed by the U.S. Attorney General as an expert to the Special Counsel in the Waco, Texas Investigation. He was a Past International Director, and Trustee of the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators and Past President of the International Association of Arson Investigators. At the time of his death, he was working as an agent of the U. S. State Department as an Anti-Terrorist trainer around the world. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Nancy H. Wetherington; a son, Walter R. Wetherington, Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Diane Wetherington Seifert of Bellevue, Wash. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14 at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, Kilmarnock with The Reverend Matthew Tennant officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Kilmarnock.
