Sylvia Florence Bowlsby was born in Nebraska. Shortly after, she, her parents and brother moved to the Jackson/Pinedale/Bondurant area of Wyoming. By 1910, Sylvia, her mother and younger sister, Della were living in Red Lodge, Montana so Della could attend a special school. In 1916, Sylvia married Earl Arthur Decker in Miles City, Montana. They spent the next several years in Oklahoma farming, and later owning and operating a grocery store. They later moved to Idaho.
