The New York Squadron ( Troops A & C ) were assigned to Camp Alger, VA, for training . He mustered in for service at Camp Alger, July 25, 1898. The New York Squadron shipped out, July 28, 1898, for Puerto Rico, aboard the transport Massachusetts , for Newport News, VA. Troop A came ashore, August 4, 1898, at playa, port of Ponce, PR.

Troop A was assigned to the Headquarters of General Miles and performed detached service and participated in the Puerto Rico campaign.

Troop A returns to the States aboard the transport Mississippi, docking at Hoboken, NJ, September 10, 1898 and mustered out of war service November 28, 1898.

He was discharged from Squadron A in late 1898.
