"Helen was born in Maple and lived in the Maple and Lake Nebagamon areas most of her life. She served in the Army Nurses Corps, attaining the rank of captain, serving in Africa and Europe during World War II, and in Japan during the Korean War. She was a registered nurse at the former Parkland Health Care Facility in Wentworth and St Luke's Hospital, Duluth. She was a member of the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church. Her husband, Charles died previously. She is survived by a son, Edward of Merrill, Wisc and two grandsons."
