Rear Admiral Hutchins died at the French Hospital in Peking of cerebral thrombosis. He was originally interred in the British Legation Cemetery in Peking (now Beijing), Grave No. 95. He was reinterred in Arlington National Cemetery in 1939 after the death and burial of his son Charles Thomas Hutchins, Jr.
