Obituary from the Currie Funeral Home (Kilmarnock, Va.) website, May 2009:

Irvin Francis Marlar, of Irvington died surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 3, 2009. Having lived 95 vigorous years, Irv died peacefully at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury his happy home for almost 10 years. Irv was the devoted husband of Mary Alice Hamilton Marlar who preceded him in death in 2001. He was born March 26, 1914, in Reedley, Cal. Irv lived in Kilmarnock and Irvington almost 30 years following his retirement from civil service with the U.S. Department of the Army. He had over 30 years Federal civilian and military service. At RWC Irv was an avid 3-day a week bridge player although he lately complained he was not getting good cards. He also swam 3 days a week until last fall. He served in the 1970's on the Lancaster County Planning Commission, was a volunteer Docent at Historic Christ Church and the Lancaster County Community library. With his wife, he initiated the Northern Neck Audubon Society's Blue Bird House fundraiser that continues today and is responsible for the very successful repopulation of Blue Birds on the Northern Neck.
At RWC, however, Irv may have been best known for his frequent trips to visit his far-flung family. Surviving are his three daughters, MaryAnn Marlar-Bond, Kathleen M. Stell, and Susan C. Gibadlo and their spouses; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Pauline Long.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic, P. O. Box 1694, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.
