PICKUP STRIKES, KILLS BOY, 5
COTTAGE GROVE -- A five-year-old boy was killed here Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a compact pickup truck as he played near a drainage ditch.
Brian Briggs, the son of Mr.and Mrs. Bill Briggs of 310 S. 17th St., Cottage Grove, was struck by a truck driven by **********, 18, of ********, Cottage Grove, according to city police.
The accident occurred at 12:25 p.m. at the intersection of South 17th and East Adams streets, police said. The boy was dead on arrival at Cottage Grove Hospital, according to reports.

BRIGGS -- Brian Floyd Briggs 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill N. Briggs of 310 South 17th, Cottage Grove died on Thursday, January 6, 1977. He was born in Cottage Grove, March 7, 1971. He is also survived by a sister, Sheila Briggs at home, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Potter of Cottage Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Briggs in California, and Mrs. Betty Nelson of Blue River. Funeral services will be held at MILLS MORTUARY in Cottage Grove, Monday, January 10 at 1:30 p.m. with private interment at Fir Grove Cemetery.
