ALEXANDRIA - Larry Parker, a former state representative and community activist, died at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pineville. He was 74.

Parker also was a candidate for Alexandria mayor in the 1970s. He was a former deputy with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office and a radio news commentator.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Parker, who died Wednesday, also was active in several local community organizations.

He was owner and operator of Parker Coins.

Survivors include his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Hixson Bros. in Pineville. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
