NOTE: The headstone INCORRECTLY says Jonathan was born in 1725. There is NO Jonathan born that year in the Rehoboth vital records book. The son of Lt. Ephraim & Rachel (Carpenter) Bliss who was born in 1725, was Ephraim b. 23 Jan 1724/25, d. 2 Mar 1724/25. The second child was also named Ephraim, b. 3 Jun 1726. Whoever prepared the headstone was incorect.

BIRTH: 26 January 1738/39, Jonathan Bliss.

MARRIED: 27 December 1759, Lydia WHEELER, both of Rehoboth, in Rehoboth, by Rev. Robert Rogeson. Intention published 28 November 1759. Entry calls him "Jonathan Jr.", which in this case means 'the younger'.

DEATH: Bliss, Capt. Jonathan, died in 61st year, Jan. 24, 1800. This was 2 days shy of his birthday, and he was survived by his wife, Lydia, and nine children.
Jonathan & Lydia were married 40 years 28 days at his death, and she outlived him by 3 years.

MILITARY: Captain in the local militia, served eight months under Captain Samuel Bliss.
He was not the Jonathan Bliss who served under John Paul Jones. That man was born in 1757, was from Virginia, and died in 1826.
