John William Fuller, 87, Rapid City and formerly of Spearfish, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug 11, 2010 in Rochester MN.

A gathering of family and friends will take place at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City from 7p.m. to 8:30p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Memorial services will be at the church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2010 with Pastor Bruce Thalacker officiating. Interment at the Black Hills National Cemetery will follow at 1:30 P.M. Memorials have been established to benefit the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity or Honor Flight SD.

John was born on October 24, 1922 in Bison to Marion and Eva (Quimby) Fuller. He attended school at various places in SD and NE and graduated from Spearfish High School.
In 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy and served proudly on PT Boats throughout WWII. During the war he married Esther Arensmeyer from Choteau, MT. After the war they moved to Great Falls, MT briefly and then to Spearfish where they raised their family.
During his working years John built homes with his father and brother and then owned a construction company that built bridges throughout SD, MT, and WY.
He owned the Lucky Strike Lanes, and worked for the City of Spearfish in several capacities. He was a long-time member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, active in the American Legion where he served for many years on their honor guard, coached and served as president of Little League Baseball, and was active in Toastmasters International.
He was an avid fan of Spearfish Spartan wrestling and followed them for many years after his sons had graduated from the team.
After retiring they spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ and summers in the Black Hills and traveling the country.
He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mesa where he shared his gift of carpentering and woodworking. During the summers and while living in Rapid City, he spent many hours volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. In 2003 his wife of 59 years preceded him in death. He moved to Rapid City in 2009.

Survivors include his sister, his 3 children. He was very proud of his 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
