Ruth Thomas Hodges passed away on August 14, 2010. She was born in Salem, Virginia one of 11 children, including her twin sister, and was in the first graduating class of Salem High School. She was a retiree of the JC Penney Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tannie Moir Hodges; mother, Effie Smith Thomas; father, Henry Jordan Thomas; sisters, Mary Opal Thomas, Ora Thomas Garrett, Lura Thomas Vest; brothers, Lerty Thomas, Herman Thomas, Ray Thomas and Wayne Thomas. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Hodges Evans & husband, Chris, and Elaine Hodges Lavinder & husband, Glenn; grandchildren, Paige Evans, Jason Lavinder & wife, Lisa, Eric Lavinder & wife, Katherine, Kim Lavinder Williams & husband, Chad, and Andrew Lavinder; great-grandsons, Logan Lavinder, Rylan Lavinder, Samuel Lavinder and Carson Williams; twin sister, Ruby Thomas Jobe; sisters, Jean Thomas Moore and Charlotte Thomas Lichtenstein; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at noon on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel. The Rev. Arthur Grant and the Rev. Roy Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family on Monday, August 16, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.
