Martha met John W. Williams, a manufacturer of woolen goods at nearby Norfolk, New York. They married June 3, 1817, at Rome. Eventually, John became a Baptist minister.
The couple had at least six children, all of whom were born at Rome, New York: Martha Amelia, Edward J., Milo L., Chester, William E., and Mary Helen.
Eventually, the Williams family came west to Prairieville, Barry County, Michigan. Rev. Williams preached at several places in Michigan, before his death at age 51 on August 13, 1847, at Gun Plains in Allegan County.
Martha survived him and lived until the age of 74, when she died April 22, 1872, at Prairieville.
The following was written in a book written by Martha's niece, Emma Leona Knapp, and her husband, Azariah Shadrack Hall, in 1906. The following is an excerpt from the book:
"My father, Chas. B. Knapp, had a sister, Martha, that was called 'Aunt Patty.' She was quite a small woman. Was carried quite a distance by the wind at one time.
"I have been acquainted with two of her children. Edward and family lived twelve miles from my father's, and the greatest treat we children could have was to make a visit at their home once or twice a year...Edward's brother, William, lived in Oriska, North Dakota, in 1904 when Mr. Hall and I visited them on our home trip from St. Louis fair. His wife had been buried but two days when we reached there some time in August..."
