Frank was the son of Samuel A. Cantrell and Mary A. Powell. He married Grace A. Marshall in 1892 at the ripe old age of 47 years. It was a first marriage for both Frank and Grace. The obituary listed in the April 17th Huntington Long Islander newspaper in 1936 gives us view into his life. It notes: " Frank S. Cantrell, a former resident of Cold Spring Hill, Huntington, and Sunken Meadow, passed away Friday night at the home of his niece, Mrs. Charlotte Cantrell Otis in Jamaica. Mr. Cantrell was born in NYC in April, 1845 and had he lived until the 27th of this month he would have been 91 years of age...He was one of eight brothers. Until his wife Grace died about seven years ago, they resided on Cold Spring Hill in the summer and in Washington in the winter. After the death of his wife he went to Jamaica to live with his niece until his death. When a boy he sailed on the ship "Constitution" and loved to tell about his experiences while on board the boat...Surviving are several nieces and nephews, three of whom reside in Huntington. There were no surviving children". In the several different census records Frank listed his occupation as, businessman, farmer and then retired stock broker. Either way he was a man who along with his wife, lived in comfortable circumstances and seemed to enjoy their life together.
