GASTON - Funeral service for Clifton Lewis "C.L." Austin, 68, will be held at 4 pm Sunday, May 2, 2010, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Saturday evening, May 1, 2010, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Midlands Special Needs Foundation, 109-A Vista Oaks Dr., Lexington, SC 29072.
Mr. Austin, husband of Beverly Palmer Austin, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Born in West Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Ben C. Austin, Sr., and Pauline Bradford Austin.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; daughters, Sharon "DeeDee" Austin (Danny Bryant) and Karen Austin (Lee Cowen); five grandchildren, Mitchell Hill, Craig Pearson, Amber Pearson Nolen (Alex) and Joey Ray; siblings, Helen Shelley (Tom), Ann Lorick (Bill), Jack Austin (Sarah), Alline Watson (Douglas), Sam Austin, Willie Austin, Frank Austin (Joann), Harry Austin (Louise), Betty Minchew (Jimmy) and Paul Austin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Fred Palmer, Hedy Williams (BW), Paulette Hendrix (Brunson) and Linda Kaneft. He was preceded in death by brother, Ben Austin, Jr., sisters-in-law, Patty Austin, (wife of Paul), Ellen Wessinger, and Judy Reynolds. Mr. Austin was a well respected member of the community and always surrounded by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. His memory will be cherished by many.
