He was the bombardier aboard a B-24D Liberator, assigned to unit 36BS, 801stBG, USAAF, 8th AF.

Crew flew out of Harrington Air Base, Harrington, Northamptonshire, England at 23:13 hrs. His aircraft was shot down by a Messerschmitt ME110 Night Fighter over Orleans and crashed at Trancrainville, Eure et Loire, France after a successful supply drop for the French Resistance.

The crew was initially burried at Aubrais, Loiret Communal Cemetary, France.
