Mrs. Carter was born March 9, 1889, at Corydon, Iowa, a daughter of John and Katherine Rosen Benda.
The Bendas came to Clark County in 1902. She was married to Abe H. Carter, October 29, 1912 at Luray and they farmed for a number of years. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1962.
Mr. Carter survives, also two sons, Stuart D. Carter of Moline, Illinois and Stanley W. of Springfield, Illinois; three daughters, Mrs. Lester (Lucile) Dotal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Walter (Mildred) Evans of Keokuk; and Mrs. Phil (Ruth) Hattendorf of St. Louis; one brother, Charles G. Benda of Luray; two sisters, Mrs. Roscoe (Irene) Dial of Austin, Minnesota; and Mrs. Thurston (Ethel) Morrison of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and four grandchildren, Mr. Ronald Huebner of Burlington, Iowa; Mrs. Jack P. Kirchner of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Marvin Domerauf of Moline, Illinois and Miss Mary Mae Carter of Springfield, Illinois.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Aileois, John and Clarence and two sisters, Mrs. Perry (Emma) Jones and Miss Julia Benda.
Mrs. Carter was a member of the Luray Methodist Church since childhood and was a charter member of Luray Chapter 528 Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Luray Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Clyde Peters. Burial was in the Combs Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Emil Smith, Arch Hawkins, Eddie Roberts, Lawrence Sisson, Orville Worrell and Leland Selway.
Mrs. Ruby Selway was pianist.
