SWOFFORD - Elmer J. Swofford of Star Route, Marcola passed away at a local hospital Thursday, Jan. 19, 1956 at the age of 59 years. He was born in Yoncalla, Oregon on Nov. 13, 1896. He had been a resident of this community for the past 31 years and had been employed at the Booth Kelly Sawmill at Wendling for 21 years. He was a member of the Marcola Church of Christ. He was married to his wife, Mary E. in Eugene, Oregon, on May 31, 1924. She preceded him in 1954. He is survived by 1 son, Loyal R. of Springfield; 1 daughter, Marilyn Swofford at home; 3 brothers: Riley of Springfield, John of Marcola, and Oscar of Crow; 1 sister, Julia Swofford of Portland, Oregon. Funeral services will be conducted in the Simon-Lounsbury Mortuary Monday, Jan. 23, 1956 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Burnell Kraiger officiating. Interment in West Lawn Cemetery.
