Thelma Mae Campbell Hoggatt

Thelma Mae Hoggatt went home to her reward at 1:00 am on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor in LaGrange.

She was born February 26, 1928 in South Bend, IN to Roy and Mary (Piety) Campbell.

Thelma's family attended the Calvert & Caroline Church of Christ in South Bend, until they helped to establish the Donmoyer Avenue Church of Christ. She was united with her Lord in baptism as a young teenager in South Bend, IN.

Thelma attended Greene Township High School, Purdue University, and Goshen College, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree.

While at Purdue, Thelma began her 61-year marriage to Aubrey Dean Hoggatt. They were married on March 12, 1949 by their friend Paul Himes.

Dean and Thelma moved to Springfield, OH and Mishawaka, IN, before settling in LaGrange in 1953. They were among the charter members of the LaGrange Church of Christ, which began regular services in August 1953.

Her joint ventures with Dean included Metal Craft Products, LaGrange Motel, and transporting vehicles. They were instrumental in financing Hoggatt Hall at Michigan Christian College.

She taught at LaGrange County schools, including Wolcottville High School, Brighton High School, and the School of Opportunity.

In 1996, Dean and Thelma spent three months in Nigeria to help construct a children's home, which houses and cares for 35 children.

Her service included volunteering in the Hospital Auxiliary, Court Appointed Special Advocate, Meals-On-Wheels, Camp Indogan and Keenagers. She was also very active as a World Bible School teacher to over 1,000 students in various countries.

Surviving her are her husband Dean and her children Kathy, Kent, Lesly, Jean, and Brian. She had ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Warren Campbell and Marilyn Bolinger.

Thelma's loving example will continue to positively influence the lives of her family and friends.
