WESTWOOD — Verna Mae Stemmer, 89, of Westwood, Ky., widow of Harry Stemmer, died Thursday evening, Aug. 12, 2010, in Oakmont Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. Verna was born March 15, 1921, in Ashland, Ky., a daughter of the late Charles and Amanda Dennis Stapleton. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and was a former employee with the Clayton Lambert Company during WWII and later was employed by the Fairview Independent School System.

Surviving are two daughters, Kitty and husband Bob Osborne of Bellefonte, Ky. and Jean Davis of Westwood, Ky.; a brother, Russell Stapleton of Ashland, Ky.; three grandsons, Scott, Tony and Jerry Davis; 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, by Brother Ed Cook at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery in Westwood, Ky.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
