Mary Evelina Hopkins Titus was the 1st of 5 children born to Edward Hopkins (1809-1887) and Mary Eveline Dufour (1811-1840). She married Henry Theodore Titus on March 3, 1852 at Darien,Georgia and they had 8 children: Edward Hopkins Titus, Catherine Howell Titus Fox, Mary Eveline Titus Ensey, Howell Titus, Judge Henry Theodore Titus Jr., Ellett Livingston Titus, Theodore Titus and Pierre Soule Titus. After her husband's death in 1881, Mary thru her charitable contributions, helped build St Gabriel's Episcopal Church in Titusville, Florida, which is an outstanding example of neo-Gothic architectual style . Hopkins Avenue in Titusville was named in her honor. By 1900, she had relocated to Thomasville, Georgia to live with her son Theodore and his family, where she died in 1911. She was laid to rest beside her beloved father Col Edward Hopkins.
