Funeral services for Sharon Kay Devine, 48, of Villisca, Iowa, were held May 11, 1991 at the United Church Disciples of Christ of Prescott, Iowa with the Rev. Don Briley and the Rev. Jeanne Groom officiating. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery near Villisca.
Clarice Outhier was organist and Helen Richie was vocalist.
Pall bearers were Dennis Richard, Gary King, Harley Sperry, Terry King, William Bert, and Phillip D. Garland.
Honorary bearers were the Rev. Bill Briley, Joe Scanlan, Mike Scanlan, Edward Scanlan, Pete Scanlan, Tom Scanlan, Bill Scanlan, John Scanlan, and Steve Bert.
Sharon, daughter of Glen and Thelma C. Nelson Chilcott, was born May 16, 1942 at home in rural Corning, Iowa, and died May 8, 1991 at her home north of Villisca.
She attended school in Prescott, graduating in 1960. She attended SW Community College at Creston for two years and NWMSU at Maryville for one year, majoring in education. After college, she worked for the NFO at Corning.
Sharon was united in marriage to Don Devine on May 27, 1967, at the Prescott Church. They lived a time in Lincoln, Nebraska and in the rural Corning area before moving to their home north of Villsica in 1974. Two sons were born to bless this union.
She was a member of the Prescott United Church; sang in the choir, taught Sunday School; was a sponsor for several youth groups, including grades three through six; junior UYF and senior UYF; was a deaconess and on the church board.
She also was a teacher’s aide, member of the Band Boostes, worked with the Cub and Boy Scouts programs, a volunteer at the nursing home, and belonged to the Adams County Genealogy Society and a needlecraft club.
Sharon correspond with many pen pals and enjoyed making her own cards.
She was preceded in death by her father, Glen and sister, Nancy Lee Chilcott.
Survivors include her husband; sons, James and his wife Stephanie of Holt, Missouri and David of Red Oak; Granddaughter, Carabeth Sharlenay; mother, Thelma C. Nelson, Chilcott of Prescott; sister, Betsy A. Richard and her husband, Dennis of Corning; her parent-in-law, Clark T. and Esther Devine of Villisca; aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends.
Southern-Beaty Funeral Home in Villisca were in charge of arrangements.
