J., preparatory school; entered the university of Michigan; then changed his course and transferred tot he university of Illinois. Last summer he served at the reserve officers training camp at Camp Custer, Mich., expecting to return to the University of Illinois this fall. He was six feet two inches in height and the build of his muscular body was in proportion. He won special distinction in athletics as a two-mile runner. Three years ago he won the marathon race staged in connection with the municipal picnic racing to Riverton and back, a distance of sixteen miles, and out-distancing all completion.
The young man was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends, who greatly deplore his death. Less than a year ago he was distressed by a muscular difficulty in his right forearm, believed to have been caused from a severe bruise. The difficulty attacked his whole system and resulted in death. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL 2-20-1923
